Lewis Hamilton behind the change at the Monaco GP

The FIA has recently decided to impose two mandatory pit stops during the Monaco Grand Prix, a measure aimed at improving the spectacle of this race, often criticized for its lack of action. Lewis Hamilton, seven-time Formula 1 world champion, has approved this initiative, recalling that he has been advocating such a change for years.
Hamilton jokingly stated: "I believe this idea comes from me, if you look at the transcripts of my interviews from previous years." He added that the Monaco Grand Prix should include at least two pit stops, believing that a single-stop strategy does not guarantee an exciting race. Although he acknowledges that this change will not solve all problems, especially the lack of overtaking, he thinks it will make the race more thrilling.
In the past, Hamilton had already suggested changes to improve the Monaco Grand Prix, such as introducing multiple mandatory stops or modifying the track layout to facilitate overtaking. He had also proposed the idea of two-leg races or the use of specific tires for this event to spice up the competition.
His Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc, winner of the last edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, shares this opinion: "I think strategy will become a bit more important, and I think that’s a good thing."
This regulatory evolution thus reflects the long-standing suggestions of the British driver, aiming to make the Monaco Grand Prix more dynamic and interesting for spectators.
