Cadillac officially joins Formula 1 in 2026

Cadillac's entry into Formula 1 from the 2026 season has been officially validated by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Formula 1, marking the arrival of an eleventh team on the starting grid.

A project supported by General Motors

This project is the result of a collaboration between General Motors (GM) and TWG Motorsports, with the aim of strengthening the American presence in the Formula 1 World Championship. Cadillac will benefit from GM's full support, making it a true factory team.

Using Ferrari engines while waiting for an in-house power unit

Initially, the Cadillac team will use customer engines supplied by Ferrari. However, plans are already in place for Cadillac to develop its own power units by 2028, further strengthening its commitment to competition.

A team in full preparation

Currently, more than 300 people are working on this project, spread across different operational bases located in Indianapolis, Charlotte, Warren, and Silverstone. These teams focus on key areas such as aerodynamics, chassis and component development, as well as software and vehicle dynamics simulation.

Experienced leadership

Greame Lowdon, a well-known figure in the F1 paddock, will assume the role of team principal for the Cadillac team. His experience and leadership will be valuable assets in guiding the team in this new venture.

Enthusiastic reactions from executives

Mark Reuss, President of GM, expressed his satisfaction by stating: "We are thrilled that the Cadillac F1 team is now official, as the team has stepped up its work." Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports, added: "In recent years, we have worked with GM to establish a solid foundation for an outstanding entry into F1. Now, we are accelerating our efforts by expanding our facilities, refining cutting-edge technologies, and continuing to recruit top-tier talent."

A warm welcome from F1

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Formula 1, welcomed this initiative by stating: "As we said in November, General Motors' commitment to fielding a Cadillac team in Formula 1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport." He also thanked GM and TWG for their constructive commitment over the past months and expressed his eagerness to welcome the team to the grid from 2026.
