Track marshals fine-tune before the E-Prix and Monaco F1 Grand Prix 2025

A few weeks apart, Monaco is getting ready to host two of the most iconic events in motorsport: the Monaco E-Prix, followed by the 82nd Formula 1 TAG Heuer Grand Prix de Monaco 2025. Behind the scenes, the track marshals – key to safety and race operations – are making their final preparations to be fully ready on race day.

Precise preparation

Each year, the winding streets of the Principality are transformed into a world-famous urban circuit. For the marshals, this transformation goes beyond setting up safety rails and fences: it’s also about testing and adjusting safety systems, reviewing intervention protocols, and preparing for all possible track situations.

For several weeks, teams have been gathering for theoretical training and practical exercises. The goal: to ensure flawless responsiveness in case of incidents, whether it’s a collision at Sainte-Dévote or a rapid evacuation at La Rascasse.

A dual mission in 2025

With the E-Prix (May 3–4, 2025) closely followed by the Formula 1 Grand Prix (May 23–24, 2025), and both relying on the same teams of marshals, their interventions must be adapted to race cars with very different characteristics.

Formula E cars are quiet, lighter, and behave differently when hitting the rails. This requires a different kind of awareness from the marshals,” explains a technical manager at the Automobile Club de Monaco. Just days after the electric race, the marshals must switch gears for the speed and intensity of Formula 1.

Voluntary but ultra-professional commitment

Made up of passionate individuals, the marshals in Monaco are volunteers, but their commitment is of the highest professionalism. Many undergo specific training throughout the year, and some even serve on other international circuits.

The Monaco Grand Prix’s reputation is also built on the precision and coordination of these men and women in orange, always alert behind the rails. Their role, often discreet but crucial, is a pillar of the success of these major events.

Just a matter of days

As the countdown accelerates, tension slowly rises in the paddocks… and at the edge of the track. Final briefings are underway, observation posts are being checked one by one, and radios tested. Every detail matters in an organization where every second counts.
