Construction of the Madrid city circuit for 2026:
a new chapter for Formula 1 in Spain

Formula 1 is set to make its big return to Madrid in 2026, with the construction of a brand new street circuit around the IFEMA exhibition center. This ambitious project marks a turning point in the history of the Spanish Grand Prix, which will move from Barcelona to the Spanish capital.
A modern and hybrid circuit
The future track, named "Madring", will stretch over 5.47 km and include 20 corners. Designed by the firm Dromo, it will combine urban and non-urban sections, with permanent and temporary infrastructures. The circuit will pass through the IFEMA Madrid facilities and Valdebebas roads, with only 1.5 km of public roads. It will also feature two tunnels and banked turns, offering a mix of fast corners and tight chicanes.
A project with strong economic impact
The total construction cost is estimated at €83.2 million. The contract was awarded to a consortium formed by Acciona (60%) and Eiffage (40%). Work will begin in May 2025 and is expected to be completed by May 2026, just in time to host the Grand Prix.
This project is entirely funded by private capital and is expected to generate around €500 million annually for the Madrid economy, creating over 8,000 direct jobs and many more indirect ones.
Optimal accessibility and high spectator capacity
Located just five minutes from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport and well served by public transport, the circuit will be one of the most accessible on the F1 calendar. It is estimated that 90% of spectators will reach the site via metro, train, or city buses.
The initial spectator capacity is planned for 110,000, with a gradual increase to 140,000 in the first years.
A sustainable and innovative approach
The project is part of a sustainability strategy aligned with Formula 1’s goals to reduce its carbon footprint. The facilities will use 100% certified renewable energy, and temporary structures will be built using recyclable materials.
A historic return of F1 to Madrid
The Spanish Grand Prix will be held in Madrid from 2026 to 2035, marking the return of F1 to the Spanish capital after more than 40 years. The last Grand Prix in Madrid was held in 1981 at the Jarama circuit.
