Red Bull admits error in driver selection

The Red Bull Racing team has recently admitted to making a strategic mistake in managing its drivers, particularly regarding the seat swap between Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda. Helmut Marko, special advisor to the Austrian team, acknowledged that this decision did not yield the expected results.

At the end of last year, Red Bull decided to reshuffle its driver lineup by assigning Liam Lawson to a reserve role, while Yuki Tsunoda retained his seat at RB (formerly AlphaTauri). This decision raised questions among observers and fans, some believing that Lawson deserved a full-time seat after his impressive performances when filling in during 2023.

A necessary reassessment

In a recent interview, Helmut Marko admitted that the team might have made a different choice:

« We made this decision thinking about the team’s stability, but in hindsight, it is clear that we should have given Liam Lawson a more significant opportunity. »

Red Bull’s strategic error could have repercussions on Lawson’s future, as he might consider other options if he is not offered a seat in 2025.

What are the consequences for the future?

With the season already well underway, Red Bull may need to adjust its strategy to avoid losing a promising talent like Liam Lawson. Some analysts even suggest that the team might reconsider its lineup before the end of the season, depending on the performance of its current drivers.
