Pierre Gasly regains third place in the Monaco Grand Prix after his penalties were rescinded

The Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix 2026 will go down as one of the most eventful races of the season. After an intense race through the streets of Monte-Carlo, Pierre Gasly believed he had secured a superb third-place finish with Alpine, before experiencing a dramatic turnaround just minutes after the chequered flag.
The French driver had nevertheless delivered an impressive performance by finishing the race on the podium. However, two five-second penalties for speeding in the pit lane were added to his final time, dropping him from third to seventh position.
Alpine appeals and gets the decision overturned
Following this decision, the Alpine team decided to lodge an appeal in order to request a review of the sanctions. The French team presented new evidence regarding the speed calculation in the pit lane.
After reviewing the case, the stewards finally acknowledged that the data used to determine the infringements was incorrect. The two penalties were therefore cancelled, allowing Pierre Gasly to officially regain his third place at the Monaco Grand Prix.
