Max Verstappen: A $470 Million Transfer in Sight?

A record $470 million offer over three years

Formula 1 could witness a major shake-up in the transfer market. According to multiple sources, Max Verstappen, three-time reigning world champion and currently under contract with Red Bull Racing until 2028, is reportedly being heavily courted by Aston Martin for a potential move in 2026.

What’s turning heads? An estimated offer of $470 million over three seasons — about $156 million per year — which would shatter all previous F1 salary records.

The Saudi Arabia connection

This potential transfer would be made possible thanks to the financial backing of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), already heavily involved in several global sports ventures, including football and golf. The goal is clear: to make Aston Martin a dominant force in the new regulatory era beginning in 2026, with the introduction of next-generation hybrid engines.

Why Verstappen might say yes

While Verstappen has long shown strong loyalty to Red Bull — the team with which he has won all his titles — several factors could push him to consider leaving:

  • Uncertainty around Red Bull Powertrains from 2026 onwards.
  • Internal tensions, especially surrounding the Horner affair, which shook the paddock in early 2024.
  • The opportunity to make history elsewhere as the centerpiece of an ambitious, well-funded project.

Early signs?

Rumors have intensified since Helmut Marko and Max’s father, Jos Verstappen, reportedly had tense talks with Red Bull’s management. Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso, currently at Aston Martin, has extended his contract until 2026... but there's no guarantee he would remain the lead driver if Verstappen joined.

Red Bull tries to calm things down… for now

At Red Bull, the team is trying to downplay the rumor. Team principal Christian Horner stated:

"Max has a contract until 2028. We’re building our future around him."

Behind the scenes, however, a counter-offer and technical project upgrades are already being discussed to persuade the Dutchman to stay.

A high-pressure 2025 season

While Verstappen continues to dominate the grid, this rumor adds extra tension in the paddock. Eyes are not only on his performance, but also on his every word or gesture — analyzed for signs of a possible exit.
